Spinal steroid injections are a common treatment for back or neck. These injections can help reduce pain, improve mobility, and may assist in delaying or avoiding surgery.
Common injection types include:
Cervical and Lumbar Facet Joint Injections: These are delivered into the small joints at the back of the spine, which can become inflamed due to arthritis or injury.
Lumbar Nerve Root Injections: These target specific nerves that may be irritated or compressed, often due to a disc bulge or spinal stenosis.
Lumbar and Caudal epidural Injections: Steroid medication is injected into the epidural space around the spinal cord to reduce widespread nerve inflammation.
These procedures are performed under Xray guidance to ensure accuracy and are normally performed under local anaesthetic only. If you feel you may require sedation for the procedure provided by an anaesthetist please discuss with Dr Bell.
